“The work of His hands”
Beloved, we are stepping into a new theme this month: Purpose. We spent August and September in The Rhythm of God, and last month we laid fresh wood on the altar. Now I want us to settle something about the One who lit the fire.
David wrote Psalm 138 after enough seasons to know better than to trust his own strength. And still he wrote this:
Look at who is doing the work in that verse. David does not say I will fulfill my purpose. He says the LORD will. The purpose on your life did not start with you, and you are not the one who has to finish it. God started it. God completes it.
Some of us have been carrying our purpose like a weight, as if it all falls apart the day we get tired. Hear me. It does not rest on how strong you feel this week. It rests on His steadfast love, and the Word says that love endures forever.
Then David prays: Do not forsake the work of your hands. He calls himself God's handiwork, something God made on purpose and has not set down. Unfinished does not mean abandoned. You are still in His hands.
So here is what we are declaring together this month. God has a purpose for every life, and the Lord will perfect that which concerns us. We will no longer live by accident, but on purpose, walking in the good works God prepared for us before the foundation of the world.
Living on purpose starts with surrender. When we submit our plans to His counsel, we position ourselves to fulfill our calling in this generation. That is why, October 19 through 23, we come together for our Consecration Fast. Get the guide, choose your fast, and get on the prayer line at 6 in the morning. Fasting does not earn us a purpose. It quiets the noise so we can hear what God already said about us.
On the second Sunday we wear pink for everyone fighting breast cancer and every family walking with them. On the third Sunday our young people lead us in worship, and I want this house full for them. On the fourth we honor the clergy who serve among us.
He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it. He is not finished with you, beloved.
