“Fresh wood every morning”
Beloved, our theme this month is Fresh Fire, and the series continues: The Rhythm of God. I want to tell you where that came from.
God gave Israel one instruction about the altar that He repeated twice in the same breath. Keep the fire burning. Do not let it go out. And then He told them how: the priest lays fresh wood on it every morning.
Notice what God did not say. He did not say the fire would keep itself. He required fresh fire, and then He handed His people the daily responsibility of laying new wood in the place of what had already burned.
That is the whole word for September. What you laid on the altar last month has been consumed. It did its work. But it will not warm you now, and it will not carry you into what God is about to do. Yesterday's wood makes ash, not fire.
So we are declaring September our month of fresh fire. A season of consistent new faith contributions that clear out the old and prepare the altar of our hearts for a fresh move of God.
Hear the word consistent. Not one great blaze and then nothing. Every morning. The priest did not wait until he felt something. He got up and laid the wood because it was the day, and the fire was still burning because he did.
That is where this joins what we learned in August. We said we would catch the rhythm rather than manufacture it. This is the rhythm. Fresh wood, every morning, whether the day feels holy or ordinary.
And here is the promise on the other side of the obedience. When we declare and do what the Word of God says, we position ourselves. Fresh anointing. New inspiration from the Spirit. The supernatural power of God at work among us. Not because we worked it up, but because we kept the altar ready.
Four Wednesday nights this month we gather for revival, and on the last Sunday we come together for the climax service. Come with your altar cleared. Bring somebody with you.
Lay fresh wood, beloved. And let the fire keep burning.
